Orchids- page under construction ya mean I have to go take photos of all those orchids??
All of my orchids are grown outdoors either naturalized in trees, in hanging baskets, or mounted. I do not spray for pests or fungus ever. And although I see some cosmetic leaf damage as a result I feel it is still the way to go. I do not disinfect pruning shears or worry that water from one will drip on another- if fact I think life is much too short to worry about such nonsense. These are plants well adapted to how I keep them and I think babying them only results in plants more liable to fall victim to any little problem. I understand that some folks differ- that's OK. I'll just serve as your control grower as you're experimenting with chemicals. I do not recall ever having lost an orchid to pests, fungus, or virus and I do not have bugs. What I do have is a plethora of beneficial insects controlling my problems for me- insects I would not have if I sprayed crap in my yard. No ID Dendrobium in a tree I do feed "weekly, weakly" and am currently using the MSU fertilizer as mentioned in Orchids the American Orchid Society publication. I also hit 'em with fish emulsion and seaweed extract if I walk by with a bottle of it. I am in no way married to any one formula.
If you grow only in pots- you may enjoy this look at what Dendrobium roots want to do.
